Rabbits

Calicivirus (RHDV) Vaccination

Rabbit calicivirus disease, or Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV), occurs in wild and domestic rabbits in Australia causing acute haemorrhage and sudden death.  There are two types of RHDV currently present in Australia (RHDV1 and RHDV2).

Up until 2022, the only vaccination available in Australia (CYLAP) offered good protection against RHDV1 but did not have good protection against RHDV2. It was also recommended to be given every 6 months.

With the new Filavac® vaccine, protection is available against both the RHDV1 strain and the RHDV2 strain of calicivirus. This vaccine also only needs to be given once annually.

$160

Myxomatosis
While vaccines do exist for Myxomatosis, they are not yet available, or approved for use, in Australia.
